Getting Started with Aromatherapy is easy as long as a few precautions are taken.
You will need just 1 or 2 essential oils (just
make sure they are pure and undiluted), and also, 4 to 8
ounces of a good carrier oil, such as sweet almond,
jojoba, grapeseed, etc. If your oil does not come in
a dropper bottle, you'll need a small glass dropper to
measure the oils with. If you can only afford one oil,
start with Lavender. It is the
most versatile, is one of the least expensive
oils, and it is one of the gentler oils as well.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Essential oils are extremely potent.
Use them with caution:
-
You should not use essential oils during pregnancy
without consulting your Doctor
-
Always dilute essential oils before applying
them in skin preparations. There are a few exceptions
to this - a drop of Tea Tree applied directly onto a
blemish, insect bite or sting and sometimes, Lavender & Chamomile). But, in
general do not use them undiluted, as they can cause
skin irritation.
-
Always do a patch test on
your skin, before using any oil.
-
There are some oils, that in small quantity are safe for
use on children, but I would not use this on children
without consulting a qualified practitioner.
-
Essential Oils should NOT be taken internally.
(Chamomile tea is not the same as Chamomile essential
oil)
-
Do not expose yourself to the sun after using essential
oils on your skin. A few oils can cause photosensitivity,
particularly bergamot, and other citrus
oils.
