Touch is a very important part of life. It can communicate love and understanding, and can instill
a feeling of calm and reassurance. When a baby cries it will often quieten when you gently rub
(massage) its back.
Massage is widely recognised today for its therapeutic value. When touch, in the form of a
massage, is used in conjunction with essential oils you can obtain wonderful results.
When giving a massage be sure to avoid
broken skin and always exercise special caution with pregnant women.
For an enjoyable massage follow these guidelines:
1. Your massage room should be quiet, warm and comfortable
2. Add a pleasant essential oil fragrance before you start
3. Hands should be warm and clean before beginning - cold hands on warm skin are
very uncomfortable and cause the body to tense up
4. Wear comfortable, loose clothing
5. Warm the carrier oil that will be used by placing the container in warm water. Pour a
small amount into the palm of your hand, rubbing your hands together until the oil is warm,
then massage the oil into the skin
6. Always thoroughly wash your hands on completion of the session
