Four dots to see Windsor Castle
Windsor CastleWindsor Castle is one of the favourite homes of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her family.

Construction was started 900 years ago by William the Conqueror and his victorious army. Situated on the River Thames at Windsor, the castle was a full days march from the centre of London.

Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world, with many people living inside the walls.

FACTS AND FIGURES

1. Windsor Castle is open to the public daily, although times vary according to the season. There are several days during the year when the castle is closed for State occasions.

2. 20 miles from central London, Windsor is reached by road using the M4 motorway, where you should exit at junction six.

3. Trains run from Waterloo to Windsor. The castle is about a ten minute walk from the rail station--and the walk is all uphill.

4. The castle, state apartments, St. George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel are all open to visitors. Note that St. George's Chapel is closed on Sunday for worship.

5. Queen Mary's dolls house should not be missed. It took 1500 craftsmen three years to complete.

6. A serious fire in 1992 destroyed parts of the castle. These areas have now been completely refurbished and are again open to visitors.

7. The castle is home to many important works of art.

8. If you see the Royal Standard flag flying, that means that Her Majesty is in residence.

9. Allow two hours for your visit to Windsor Castle.
